Being a free church, the majority of requests for marriage at Hinckley
URC come from those who have some relationship with our Church.
However it is our commitment to listen to all those who approach us. We see
the main criteria for marriage in Church as being the wedding service
itself, the vows made before God, and to one another - and a commitment
to Christian values within marriage. We aim to make the marriage ceremony
one of integrity and meaning for all those taking part. As part of our
commitment to Christian marriage and to the couple, we ask them to
participate in an interview with the minister and to be regular attendees
at Church before the ceremony itself. Please contact the Church or the
Minister for further information.
It is our practice to celebrate the arrival of a new child with either a service of Infant Baptism or a service of dedication. Baptism in the URC is a once in a lifetime event. So if the child is baptised as an infant, a second baptism later as an adult would not be an option. For this reason some parents opt for a service of dedication as an infant, allowing the option of baptism later in life when they have come to their own Christian commitment. Either option is taken as part of a normal Church service.
